The 2026 Met Gala, Through a Jewellery Lens
The Met Gala happened last night. Theme: "Fashion Is Art." The red carpet went deep: Impressionist paintings, hand-painted gowns, old Hollywood film references. Two looks in particular stuck with me, and I kept finding myself thinking about which pieces from the studio would sit alongside them.
Emma Chamberlain in Mugler: For the One Who Sees Everything in Watercolour
Chamberlain wore a custom Mugler gown that took forty hours to paint and four days to dry — inspired by the Impressionist period, deep watery blues with what she called a quiet, ominous undertone. The kind of dress that moves differently than you expect it to.
For a gown this painterly, the jewellery needs to sit close to the face and stay out of the way of the fabric, which is exactly what a great pair of hoops does. These blue sapphire hoops hold radiant-cut blue sapphires, with eight accent diamonds wired into a delicate hoop that wraps loosely around the lobe. The sapphire blue echoes the gown's cool, watery palette from the bottom. They're the kind of earrings that catch the light when you turn your head with subtle movements.
One of a Kind Blue Sapphire and Diamond Hoops, 14k white gold. Two radiant-cut blue sapphires, 0.70cttw, with eight accent diamonds. Ready to ship. $4,500 CAD.

Blake Lively in Versace: For the One Who Owns the Room
Lively wore a sherbet-hued Versace gown with a fitted bodice, full skirt and a thirteen-foot train. The colour sat in that warm golden-peachy range that reads effortless but photographs like a painting. She's always one of the most-discussed looks of the night, and this one was no exception.
The ring that came to mind immediately is this one-of-a-kind golden beryl cocktail ring. The gemstone is called a heliodor, from the Greek word for sun. This one is a 2.83ct, emerald-cut, set in 14k yellow gold with 30 accent diamonds that catch every angle of light. Warm, golden, and entirely its own thing. The kind of ring that makes sense at a Met Gala and just as much sense on a Tuesday.
Asymmetric golden beryl (heliodor) and diamond ring, 14k yellow gold. 2.83ct emerald-cut heliodor with 30 accent diamonds. Ready to ship. $5,250 CAD.

At its best, the Met Gala is a reminder that getting dressed can be an act of real intention. The pieces made in the Montréal studio are built around the same idea. If either of these caught your eye, the full collection is at justinequintal.com.
